Producer Akihito Kadowaki says he wants to continue the Onimusha series, and the ending of Way of the Sword leaves two villains alive for a follow-up.

Asked whether the series has further plans after Onimusha: Way of the Sword, producer Akihito Kadowaki gave a warm non-answer: he wants to make more Onimusha, but nothing is promised yet. Combined with what the ending leaves on the table, that is enough to keep hope alive.
Spoiler Warning
The ending itself plants the seeds. Community players noticed that two major antagonists resurface after the final battle: Dokiyo, who was never truly finished off by Musashi, and Sasaki Kojiro, who was beheaded by Yoshitsune late in the story only to return by mysterious means. Either man could anchor a follow-up arc, and the game conspicuously does not close their books. Our Sasaki rematch guide covers why fans find him so hard to let go of.
The Numbers Behind the Nod
Capcom has also framed the restart as a commercial success with room to deepen. The lineage makes the stakes legible: the 2001 original sold 2.02 million copies and became the first PS2 game to break one million; the series then went quiet after 2006's New Onimusha undersold. Way of the Sword answered by clearing one million units on day one — our sales roundup has the details.
No sequel or story DLC has been announced. But between the dangling villains, a reboot that sold, and a producer publicly leaning yes, Musashi's story has every room to continue.
