Soul Absorption and the Special Gauge — Yellow, Blue and Red Souls Explained

The Oni Gauntlet harvests three soul colors in Onimusha: Way of the Sword — yellow heals, blue charges the special-attack gauge, red pays for upgrades.

Red, yellow, blue — every kill is a payout if you catch it.

The Oni Gauntlet is Onimusha: Way of the Sword's economy as much as its weapon: defeated Genma release souls, and absorbing them keeps Musashi healed, armed and upgrading. Capcom's official rundown spells out exactly what each color does.

The Three Colors

  • Yellow souls restore health. The bread-and-butter pickup after every exchange.
  • Blue souls charge the special gauge — the meter behind Musashi's super attacks. If you are building around burst damage, blue is the color you farm.
  • Red souls are upgrade currency, paying for basic abilities, special abilities and items between fights.

Absorption is active, not automatic: souls float free after a kill and you gather them deliberately. The catch is defensive — you can move while absorbing, but you cannot guard. Every pull is a small risk assessment: grab the orb now and eat a hit, or disengage and circle back.

That tension is the game's real resource loop. Boss guides like the Datsura fight are largely about when the room is safe enough to harvest, and the upgrade economy decides whether red souls go to skills or stock.
