Exploring Rakuto Walkthrough — Prison Windows, Komyoro Shrine and the Wish Demon

Complete Rakuto walkthrough: seal both Prison Windows, solve the Eight Mighty Ones statue quest at Komyoro Shrine, beat Roshogan, and break the miasma walls.

Rakuto is the game's first proper hub district, and this chapter is the longest so far: two Prison Windows to seal, a full side-quest line, and two boss encounters.
Prison-Eaten Kyoto
After talking with Ono no Takamura you receive the Healing Omamori and a Joruri Fragment — open the menu to equip the charm. Check the map and set out for the two Prison Windows.
Prison Window 1: Head over, rescuing villagers along the route — saved civilians hand you gifts, and there are pickups scattered around. Defeat the guards, seal the window, then unlock the Kamo River East save mirror nearby.
Prison Window 2: Follow the marker from Rokudochinno-ji. You'll pass through a courtyard that feels completely unlike the rest of Kyoto — its residents are all praying to something unseen: cures for bad knees, love that lasts forever. Note this place; it matters later. Grab the Higashi Oji Avenue save mirror, seal the second window, and report back to complete the mission.
Threads of Fate
Back at the temple, Shizuka Gozen fully awakens and explains the invasion: the Genma have taken Hell itself, led by the white-robed man — Minamoto no Yoshitsune.
Three unlocks before you move on:
- At any save mirror you can now upgrade equipment and abilities.
- Takamura mentions the temple bell: ring it to enter the Training Grounds, where you can run practice trials or rematch bosses. Beating Sasaki Ganryu's rematch earns the Fierce Foe Returns trophy; rematching every boss earns Undefeated.
- Leave the Training Grounds and collect the Oni Armament: The Two Celestials.
The Wishes Gone Wrong
Head for the Rakuto markers to investigate the disturbance. Marker 2 is unreachable for now, so start at marker 1: a blindfolded woman explains that Komyoro Shrine has been warped by miasma — every wish for connection or severance twisted into something monstrous.
The shrine turns out to be that strange courtyard from earlier. Inspect the scene: an old man whose cure for bad knees was losing his legs entirely, and two small clay dolls that turn out to be the praying lovers — their souls sealed inside the pottery.
Follow the guidance to the unresponsive Yorimasa stone monument, then speak to the Eight Mighty Ones statue for a task: recover the statues of the first, third and seventh Mighty Ones. The guide marker walks you straight to all three, with a few enemy ambushes en route.
Return all three statues to the shrine's altar.
Boss: Roshogan
Reaching the temple gate triggers a black-soul cutscene — a Genma has been twisting mortal wishes for sport — and the Roshogan boss fight begins.
Despite two health bars, Roshogan has no counterintuitive moves, so the fight is easier than it looks. The key mechanic: a visible thread connects the boss to its stolen power. Slash the thread whenever you see it — it severs the link and briefly staggers the boss. See a thread, cut a thread.
After the kill, a cutscene: Yorimasa snipes the dying demon from a hundred paces with a single arrow, then grants Musashi the power of the Eight Mighty Ones. From now on you can shatter miasma walls.
Miasma Over Kiyomizu-zaka
Return to marker 2 and break the miasma wall with your new Arm Awakening power. Inside, the streets are saturated — standing in the miasma drains your health, and the only cure is destroying the miasma flowers that pump it out. The route itself is strictly linear from here.
When you reach the Prison Window, you'll find the pale demon Hyakue that escaped you back at Kiyomizu-dera. Kill it, absorb the window, and clear the last miasma flower to restore the street.
Back at Rokudochinno-ji, one more objective opens: find the Oni Hidden Door. Follow the route, clear the mobs, and drop into the well. Sweep Detection to spot the entrance, slip into the Oni Hideout, and solve the simple bow-target puzzle to proceed to Nijo Castle.
