Famitsu Japanese sales for Aug 31 - Sep 6: Onimusha: Way of the Sword debuts at No.1 with 76,530 on PS5 and 19,499 on Switch 2.

Launch week in Japan: two platforms, one clear winner.

Famitsu's Japanese retail chart for the week of August 31 to September 6 has one story: Onimusha: Way of the Sword debuted at No.1. The PS5 version sold 76,530 copies and the Switch 2 version added 19,499, for a combined 96,029 in its first week — comfortably clear of everything else on the chart.

The Week's Top Sellers

  • [PS5] Onimusha: Way of the Sword (Capcom, Sep 4) — 76,530 (new)

On hardware, Switch 2 led with 24,281 units (6,265,473 lifetime), ahead of PS5 Digital at 7,054 and Switch Lite at 6,566.

The split is interesting for a reboot this action-heavy: a fifth of launch sales came from Switch 2 owners, a crowd not traditionally courted by character-action games. Add the worldwide picture — one million on day one — and Japan's chart is one more signal the restart landed.
