All 23 Genma Records — Locations and How to Open Each Chest

Published 2026-09-12Updated 2026-09-188 min read

Every Genma Record in Onimusha: Way of the Sword: how the Oni Power chests work and all 23 locations, from Hitotsume Gasa to the post-game Yoshitsune note.

Twenty-three records of the Genma — the game's hidden bestiary.

Genma Records are the game's collectible bestiary: 23 in total, and collecting them all unlocks the Genma-ologist trophy.

How They Work

Every Record sits in a hidden chest that only opens with Oni Power. The routine for nearly all of them: activate Oni Vision to reveal the Oni marker, then unleash Oni Power at the spot to manifest the chest.

Two skills make the hunt dramatically easier — unlock them first:

  • Oni Vision: Treasure (and its second tier)
  • Oni Vision Search Range

And build the habit: hold L2/LT, tap R2/RT to sweep every new room.

Note: Oni Armaments do not carry into New Game+.

All 23 Records

# Record Location
1 Hitotsume Gasa West of the Higashioji Street mirror; manifest the chest with Oni Power
2 Kubi Akari South of the Kamo River east mirror
3 Togemaru Kyoto, garden west of the Yorimasa monument
4 Kogai Inside the house north of the Gojo Street west mirror
5 Kogashira Underground Laboratory B3, near the grand theater mirror
6 Oboro Garasu Mount Oe valley: don't cross the bridge — drop down, wall-run to the platform
7 Mohja Arashiyama temple area, south of the mountain path, past the blast-opened door
8 Chijiko Underground Laboratory B2
9 Hirehime Mount Oe valley lower level, near the water
10 Hitotsume Sho Kiyomizu-dera, inside the dojo at the map's northern tip
11 Byakue Kiyomizu-zaka, on the rooftops due north of the mirror
12 Dohatsu-ten Gojo Street east, the open field where you first fight it
13 Nue North of the Nue Pond mirror — your first Nue arena
14 Daidara Oni Hideout, courtyard due north of the shrine-ground mirror
15 Shuten Doji Mount Oe, outside the boss building east of the mountain-path mirror
16 Rasho Gan The courtyard beside the Higashioji Street mirror — its own fight arena
17 Sasaki Ganryu The room where you duel him beneath Kiyomizu-dera
18 Benkei Kyoto, on the bridge of your first Benkei fight
19 Greater Nue North of the pond-garden mirror — the first Great Nue arena
20 Dokyo Arashiyama, just past Hozu gorge — the first Dokiyo arena
21 Ifuu Kyoto, the open field of its first fight
22 Burai Kyoto, the open field of its first fight
23 Yoshitsune Post-game: after beating him, reload and return to the well behind Rokudochinno-ji. Oni Vision marks the spot; Oni Power opens the final chest

The pattern worth noticing: most boss Records spawn in the exact arena where you first fought them. If you remember where a fight happened, you already know where its chest is.
