Nue Beast Boss Guide — Dodge First, Deflect Never

The Nue Beast punished deflect players: why the perfect-dodge skill carries this fight, both bite tells decoded, and the tail-severing payoff.

The Nue Beast at Nijo Castle — all limbs, no patience for deflects.

The Nue Beast breaks the game's usual rhythm: nearly every attack is a limb strike, which makes deflects almost worthless here. The fight belongs to footwork — unlock the perfect-dodge chain-slash skill before you walk in, dodge everything, and let the dodge counters do the cutting.

The Two Bites

Both bites announce themselves through the head, and telling them apart is the whole game:

  • Close bite: mouth opens wide with the head tilting slightly — a short-range chomp.
  • Gap-closing bite: mouth opens wide as the whole face turns flat sideways — that's your cue that he's about to cross the arena at you. Start dodging on sight.

Everything Else

Front claw swipes. Generously telegraphed; a normal dodge clears them.

Tail whip. The moment the beast turns its back to you, prepare — the tail snaps down directly overhead. Dodge at the apex of the jump.

The tail itself. The beast's tail is severable, and it matters: while the tail lives, he also bites with it and lobs poison projectiles at range. Breaking it removes both threats from the fight.

After the Fight

Victory leads you through the torii gate for the story beat about Okuni's captured dance partner — then open the far door, ride the elevator down, and continue the Nijo Castle walkthrough into the underground.
