Deflection Mechanic — Turn Enemy Attacks Into Weapons in Onimusha

Capcom's official look at Deflection in Onimusha: Way of the Sword: bat attacks aside to drain posture and send arrows and projectiles straight back at the shooter.

Deflection is Onimusha: Way of the Sword's answer to everything you would rather not dodge. Capcom's official breakdown describes a tool that redirects enemy attacks into the space around you — and, when the timing is right, straight back at whoever sent them.
What Deflection Does
In close quarters, deflecting an enemy swing blunts the attack and carves a large chunk out of their posture bar — the same resource the parry system punishes. A drained posture bar means openings: staggers, execution windows, room to work.
The highlight reel use is ranged attacks. Arrows and thrown objects can be batted back at the attacker, leaving them exposed to their own ammunition. Against archer-lined rooftops — the kind you will meet around Nijo Castle — it converts a nuisance into a free hit.
Where It Fits in the Toolkit
Deflection is the pressure option: steady, forgiving, and posture-hungry. The Issen is the lottery ticket. Grappling attacks need a read-dodge instead. Reading which answer each enemy wants — then layering deflection under everything — is how the game's fights stay readable at speed, and it is the habit the boss gauntlet rewards most.
